Gerry's new book of original duets for tenor and bass trombone
New Mexico has a way of getting into everything: the light, the landscape, and apparently the music. These duets grew out of recent years of playing, teaching, and soaking up the spirit of New Mexico.
Each piece started with a name. Clovis Man, Yucca Trail, Tumbleweeds. The titles came first, and the music followed. That’s just how it works for me. If a name has character, the piece usually finds its own way from there.
Along with being fun to play, these duets give you something to work on like double tonguing, rhythm, dynamics, style. All tucked into music you’ll actually want to share with someone. That’s a better way to improve than working through exercises alone.
About
Having spent nearly 30 years playing in the St. Louis Symphony, I have left St. Louis and with my beautiful wife, am now enjoying semi-retirement in the great state of New Mexico.
My full-time life as a professional musician traveled a long and winding path, and this (not too short!) bio describes much of my travels along the way. I hope you can relate to some of it, and see your own experiences reflected somewhere in all of it. Take a deep breath, now ready, go!
