Enchantment

There are so many wonderful places I’ve come to know in New Mexico, and just as many great names—Clovis Man, Yucca Trail, Tumbleweeds. Most of the time, I start with a name and let it lead me to the music. In this collection of duets, those names shape what you hear. Sometimes it’s the motion, sometimes the character, sometimes just a feeling that finds its way into the notes.

Along the way, I also wanted these duets to give us something practical to work on. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to deal with articulation, rhythm, dynamics, and style—but always within music that’s meant to be played, not just studied.

There’s something about playing with another person that brings a different kind of focus. You listen more. You respond. It becomes a conversation, and I think that’s a more enjoyable way to improve than working through things alone.
